Most people start with their 401k plans at work. If not one of these, then an IRA.

you need to get connected with a brokerage company like td ameritrade,charles schwab or similar type company.then decide if it is for retirement or not because you can open an account that is not an ira if you want or if it is for retirement than you can go with an ira if you choose.but if you go with an ira you can't take money out of it untill you are 59 1/2 years old.then after that start off with some large cap mutual funds with low fees.

Talk to a finacial planner. They probably have one at your bank. It will cost nothing & they will help you make plans for the future. Most people can save money, the trick is where to put that money where it will do you the most good. p.s. Thanks to my planner. l will retire in 80 days at age 59.

According to The Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (the people who license and test probation officers in Oregon) there is no physical agility test of any sort.
There is a medical physical but no fitness test.

I have never heard anything even suggesting a fitness or agility test for any probation officer anywhere in the US

Start with a Budget. You need to know exactly where your income is going. Decide what you can eliminate and put as much as possible into savings.
Two income couple could live on one income and invest the entire second income.
From bank savings move cash into No Load Mutual Funds. As the amount increases invest in stock and purchase rental property. Keep parlaying assets into larger and stronger investments.

You start with a list of your assets and funds available for investment.

1) Then you determine how you are going to apportion those funds among various levels of risk.

(The greater the risk, generally the greater the return if the risk is successful)

2) then you decide.

3) Then you check it at some point, and see step 1

No state I’m aware of has a fitness requirement for PO’s. Except apparently now Oregon…. I’d say most do not.

Although both public health and law enforcement protect the public, the approach and nature of the work performed in the two disciplines are quite different.
